Writer’s Checklist#

When writing questions for use in Numbas it is important to include absolutely everything outlined in the Guide for Writers.

A builder, while used to the Numbas Editor, may not be familiar with your topic area.

A template has been produced with the goal of helping writers produce better questions, while at the same time making it easier for the builder to interpret.

The current version of this document (Version 0.3) can be found here.

A well written question will contain the following:

  • Detailed working out for each step of the solution

  • Detailed marking criteria for each step

  • All necessary diagrams/visual aids

  • Variables with authentic ranges, and any constants (with units)

  • Clearly outlined variable conditions

Including all of this information will significantly reduce the time taken to build the question in Numbas.

Remember, even if you are writing and developing the questions yourself, this is still a very helpful process to follow.
